Can you imagine going back in time to 45 years ago? Really liked this book. I do have a friend who was at Woodstock and it was neat to talk to her about this book and find that her memories of it were pretty much online with what Sonnenbli. Rich knows that Mike died just a couple of weeks after Woodstock, and that events at the concert. It's a sort of thing that hits you even if you're not into Woodstock or the bands and people that played there - if you're into any sort of music that's not the 'right now' music, or fans of any bands or people that aren't around anymore, it has the same effect. Rich, who is now blond and known in 1969 as Gabriel, knows that his uncle dies a week later and needs to find a way to stop that from happening. This is a good book to read alongside "The Beach" by Alex Garland.

After visiting his father in the basement in the middle of the night, Rich is suprised to find that his father has a lot of memorabilia from Woodstock in the basement, including a guitar that appears to have been Jimi Hendrix's. It was consistent, written with a great entertaining and engaging voice, and swept you up in the time and the story. I can always count on Jordan Sonnenblick for compelling and well-written novels with authentic-sounding teen characters, stories with values I espouse and have no hesitation recommending to the kids I teach, and memorable, moving themes. Hardly ever give five stars but this one deserved it. And yeah, this book is not a perfect home run but boy does it have some strong points.

And even tough, traveling did do exactly that to him, the book retains a constant cynic-funny perspective of the hippie side of traveling and disappointed my expectations positively. I had to read this book for a Youth culture seminar, and seeing the book's cover and title made me want to puke at the idea of reading it. This book was funny, and it taught me about Woodstock. Haha It is really funny and at the same time, actually made me discovered India through its pages. He’s in big trouble. That it was somewhat critical, especially in regards to what is referred to as slum tourism. is a really different way to read about taking a gap year and going somewhere you aren't exactly sure of. Although it´s rickety in places, this is a funny, entertaining, TRUE book about that whole backpacking, gap-year scene, which will tickle anyone who has travelled through India, or indeed, Asia or Africa. read it twice as well.
