Required by many outdoor employers and recommended for all outdoor enthusiasts, this course teaches you through classroom sessions and field exercises to prevent and respond to incidents in the backcountry. The Yellowstone Forever Institute offers several professional-level certification programs to help you hone your outdoor and naturalist skills—with spectacular Yellowstone National Park as your classroom. This 16-hour certification course is ideal for hikers, skiers, and outdoor professionals who want to learn the basics of emergency care in remote settings.

The Leave No Trace Trainer course provides students an opportunity to develop a high level of understanding of the seven principles of Leave No Trace.

Programs are based in Gardiner, Montana, at our Overlook Field Campus overlooking Yellowstone’s Northern Range, or at the historic Lamar Buffalo Ranch in the park’s remote northeast corner.

This 16-hour certification course is ideal for hikers, skiers, and outdoor professionals who want to learn the basics of emergency care in remote settings. The Leave No Trace Master Educator course provides participants with extensive training in Leave No Trace skills and ethics, through practical application in a field-based setting.

Each course can be taken as a stand-alone program to satisfy job requirements.

Roughly 40% of the workshop is activity-based and discusses programming structure and setup, as well as working with people in the outdoors in a safe and professional manner.
