Lumberjanes: True Colors by Lilah Sturges, polterink, and Jim Campbell. MAD. Another of my favorite stories was Marvin Monster, written by Jim Lugwig with finishes, colors and letters by the incredible talented, Kevin S. Halter. The pulp-tastic story apparently jumps back and forth between two different periods in Dracula’s life and involves three of his brides, a crime scene photographer, and a mystery. The end result is breathtaking, earnest, and a truly essential read — one that you’ll want to read in one sitting, but that will stick with you long after. It’s a perfect marriage of words and pictures. The series’ letter column is also one of the funniest and most heartfelt constants in comics right now -- just look at issue #27, where Fraction and Zdarsky send a Chili’s gift card to a pair of young queer fans for reasons that are too endearing to explain here. Against all the odds, The Dreaming proved a worthy successor to The Sandman and worth every fan's attention. This is overwhelmingly apparent with its final arc, which began this January after a year-and-a-half-long hiatus.
