I wrote it as part of the Native Americans of North America class I am currently taking. I was surprised to learn that the issue of the Native Americans is far from being over, when I got to see the footage of the siege of the Pine Ridge Reservation. They do not attempt to encompass the whole of that history, a task for which many more documentaries than five would be needed, but pick signal stories, beginning with Thanksgiving 1621 and ending with the 1973 Indian takeover of a small town on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Cinemark I highly recommend this program because the way it was put together; it was obvious the intent of the project was to educate and inform. Wounded Knee was a bit frustrating to watch as it was not clear what was happening, what was the problem, what were the demands, what was the outcome. More impressive were the many interviews with Native Americans themselves sharing oral histories, and in the case of Wounded Knee, first-hand experiences.

The most questionable content decisions for me were the exclusion of any significant discussion of indigenous life before European colonization as well as the sidelining of Native American women in the stories. We Shall Remain (Part V): Wounded Knee, S21:E8. Ambition knows no bounds, nor does corruption in a political thriller. Like slavery, it is a subject at once much discussed and somehow fundamentally ignored, and because the story has been so sensationalized on the one hand and romanticized on the other, there is a continual desire to tell it right. I usually find reenactments kind of cheesy, but this was really well done and did not detract from the historical facts being laid out.
